Chevy Traverse Oil Type

The three-row Chevy Traverse provides exceptional performance and capability on the Bakersfield roads, but if you’d like to keep that engine power for the long haul, you’ll need to stay up-to-date with routine services like oil changes. Regular oil changes can keep your engine clean and running at its optimal level, ensuring you can tackle everything the Porterville roads throw your way.

So, what is the recommended Chevy Traverse oil type, and how often should you change your oil? Learn everything you need to know about the Chevy Traverse oil capacity and type with this comprehensive guide from Delano Chevrolet’s service team.

What is the Chevy Traverse Oil Capacity & Oil Type?

The recommended Chevy Traverse oil type varies based on model year and engine, so it’s always best practice to check your owner’s manual before performing any maintenance. That said, proud owners of the most recent Traverse models are often advised to use SAE 0W-20 full synthetic oil. Tulare drivers should plan on buying 5.2 or 5.5 quarts of oil, depending on the engine, to complete their oil change. Chevy Traverse Oil Change Tips

Regular oil changes are essential to maintaining the performance of your Traverse. Use these tips to ensure you stay on top of your Chevy Traverse oil filter and engine oil maintenance:

• • Watch for Your “Change Engine Oil Soon” Message: The latest Chevy Traverse models are equipped with an oil change indicator that monitors engine revolutions, engine temperature, and the total miles your vehicle has driven. When this indicator detects it’s time for an oil change, a “Change Engine Oil Soon” message will appear on your dashboard. Do your best to schedule service as soon as the message displays, or within 600 miles.
  • Check Your Oil Level Regularly: Even with a modern oil change indicator tracking your engine performance, it’s still important to visually check your oil level from time to time. To do so, park your Chevy Traverse somewhere flat and allow the engine to cool for at least 15 minutes. Pop your hood, pull out the oil dipstick, and wipe it clean with a paper towel or rag. Then, re-insert the dipstick and remove it to check the oil level. If the oil doesn’t reach the cross-hatched area on the end of the dipstick, add some oil or schedule an oil change at Delano Chevrolet.
  • Only Use the Recommended Oil Viscosity: To keep your engine running smoothly, it’s important to use the oil viscosity recommended by Chevrolet. Any other viscosity or additives may cause damage.
