6 Tips for Being a Fuel-Conscious Driver

Whether you’re driving to work outside of Delano or heading down the roadways outside of Porterville for your vacation destination, these are some great tips when it comes to how to be fuel efficient in general:

  1. Accelerate Softly: If you’re one to smash down on the gas pedal, we’d recommend being a bit more gentle. The harder down you press, the more fuel that’s used. Always try to accelerate softly and take five seconds to bring your vehicle to higher speeds from a standstill.
  2. Plan For Traffic: When it comes to your daily routine, always remember to plan accordingly. If you’re stuck in “Stop-and-Go” traffic in general, this is a terrible use of your fuel and will put additional stress on your vehicle’s drivetrain. Always try to leave 15 minutes earlier than you would to avoid any issues.
  3. Avoid Speeding: When traveling at higher speeds, you’ll burn much more fuel. For instance, we recommend keeping your speed around 55-65 mph to get the best possible fuel economy on any highway. Just remember to follow the speed limit at all times.
  4. Coast to a Stop: Look at the roadways in front of you. Rather than constantly applying your brakes, see if you can come to a stop via coasting.
  5. How Can You Save Fuel While Driving on Hills?: Reduce your speed when going uphill, and use your vehicle’s forward momentum when heading downhill.
  6. Use AC at Highway Speeds: Car air conditioning will require gas, so AC should be used sparingly when driving around Delano. Using your AC is the best choice when driving on the highways because it’ll reduce the heat in your interior and because opening your windows will increase the drag coefficient, which means more fuel depletion in general.
